About On the Side
On the Side Sub Shop first opened its doors in 1974. The business chose its very appropriate name based on its first location down the narrow Armory Allen in Olean, "on the side" of the building housing the Beef & Barrel Restaurant. On the Side later relocated to 241 North Union Street (its current location) in 1983.

The Douthit family has owned the shop for many years. On the Side Sub Shop celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.
